Description

Say 'Hasta La Vista' to everything you thought you knew about lager

Will us Brits get the chance to escape the country in 2021 in an attempt to migrate into a warmer climate just like the Austrians did back in 1864?? Probs not. But let’s all play pretend and sink a few of these smooth creamy Mexican Lagers in an attempt to make peace with this notion.

Anyway….. in 1864, thousands of Austrians moved to Mexico after Ferdinand Maximilian Habsburg of Austria was appointed as Mexico’s emperor. Naturally, they brought their beer recipes with them. (Kind of them) While Max’s reign was short lived and lasted just three years the Austro-Mexican brewing tradition continued…At least they got a holiday.

Tasting Notes

Medium-bodied, dark and sweet. Dark Candy offers a balance of flavour between the delicate caramel of the malt and a light spiced fruit character from the hops with a creamy finish.

Great combination!

Marz Ataks it's not, but it's the closest relative I've tasted to date! Is this what happens when you blend a Marzen with a best bitter?? Subtle sweetness and a smooth bitter aftertaste that's quite hoppy on the tongue. More of a lager-beer, but another great addition to the Redchurch line-up that goes perfectly with a spicy dish or nicely chilled on it's own. As usual, exceptional service and delivery too - i'll be ordering more for sure!

Lovely malty Flavour

Not a lover of lager but description of this did not sound like one even though described as a Mexican Black Lager. Has a lovely malty flavour with a hint of sweetness. Rich ruby red colour would highly recommend this. Ignore the lager tag, this is not like one more a bitter.

Wow! A new favourite

Running the risk of sounding like a broken record, but this is my new favourite. After enjoying the Marzen I’m definitely swaying towards the darker lagers. This is a must try for all Redchurch lovers. The label is the best design they have come up with as well.

This Quaffable Mexican Lager doesn't need Lime to take away the taste!

Love it. Mexican Lager it might be- but its certainly not the stuff that comes with a piece of lime in the top. Pours with a creamy caramel coloured head. Nowhere near as sweet as is suggested by the name. I got lots of fruity malt and just a hint of sweetness and considerably more hoppy bitterness than I was expecting and it leaves a bitter hoppy after taste that seems quite "grown up". This will definitely go well with a Friday night curry. Well done Redchurch. Another winner!

Not like the märzen!

Lovely dark lager, very different to the märzen which is much sweeter. This is a little more bitter but with just a hint of spice, a perfect winter lager!
